When we entered the studio, artists were working hard. Opposite, in a piece of land of over 600sq.m, artist Doan Hoang Lam has nearly finalised his artwork named “Coi So Tu”. This is an iron-made maze, covered by nylon. The lights are on the inside and can only be enjoyed by entering.
In the studio, sculpture Nguyen Ngoc Lam was wielding an iron globe. He said this is a small part of his work named “Car”. “Car” is a five meter long, 2.5m high car model with a chimney. The 1m-diameter iron globe represents smoke spreading from the Car. Inside the model, Lam has installed real traffic sounds from the streets of Hanoi.
Meanwhile Painter Le Quang Ha was busy working on “Temple and Sword Lake”. It includes a metal cage, which symbolises the Temple. The cage is decorated with strange animals with duck bodies and fish heads which move in a circle.
Vu Bich Thuy, one of the four female artists in this group, contributes a Buddhist statue hung up on the roof of a house-on-stilts. Around the house are chairs and tables describing a party. This work is about a man living in happiness by light.

Nguyen Bao Toan introduced his “Conversion” work, which includes 300 effigies lit from the inside. These effigies will be hung on bamboo stakes along 200m of the Red River dike. Toan spent six months making these effigies. Toan said the work will be burnt after it is exhibited in “Light Conversion”.
Sponsored by the Danish Embassy, “Light conversion” will open at 7.30pm, October 30 along the dike of Ngoc Thuy ward, Long Bien district near Dao Anh Khanh’s studio.
This is the first event of the contemporary art project named “The Flow of 1000 Years” to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Hanoi.
The second event, called “Sound Bridge” will take place on February 24, 2010 and the third entitled “Tree of Life” will come on October 15, 2010.
