VietNamNet Bridge – Fireworks, music and art performances lit up the coastal city of Nha Trang at the opening of this year’s Sea Festival on Saturday night.

Under the sea: Vien Ngoc Xanh (Blue Pearl) written by late composer Bao Phuc and performed by singer Ho Quynh Huong opened the seven-day Sea Festival 2009 in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province on Saturday.

Le Xuan Than, Vice President of Khanh Hoa Province’s People Committee and head of the festival’s organising board, said this year’s Sea Festival was an opportunity for Khanh Hoa province and Nha Trang city to introduce the economic, cultural and tourism potential to local and foreign visitors.

The fourth annual seven-day festival featured over 60 cultural and art festivities, sports and tourism activities, workshops and exhibitions along the beach and at the popular Ponagar Tower.

The festival will also set several new records for Viet Nam, including the largest pot of pho (noodles), for more than 600 people, and the largest traditional musical orchestra, with the participation of 150 musicians.

Miss World 2004 Maria Julia Mantilla, Miss World 2006 Tatana Kuchrova and Miss Viet Nam 2006 Mai Phuong Thuy will attend the Carnival along Tran Phu street on Tuesday night.

Tourists visiting the festival can take part in community activities, like the painting of the longest oil painting, about environmental protection, along Tran Phu street, and the Fishing Harvest Festival at April 2 Square on Wednesday.

The international musical performance, Nong Len Ngon Lua Am Nhac (Burning the Fire of Music), attracted six foreign singers and musicians from six countries, such as pop singer Natalia Fateeve from Russia, pop and rock band Nehr from France, the band Speechwriters LLC from the US, pop singer Bugo from Italy, rock band Electro Super Massive from Australia and DJ Sophie Sugar from England.

Local residents and tourists can enjoy the performance at April 2 Square on Thursday or watch it live on VTV3.

The Sea Festival, organised by Khanh Hoa Province’s People’s Committee, is the province’s largest cultural activity, and is held every two years.
