VietNamNet Bridge – As of Monday, October 27, Vietnam was still absent from the list of Miss World 2008 participants. 100 countries have confirmed their attendance at the 58th Miss World pageant, to be held on December 13 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Vietnam has participated in the pageant since 2002. However, 4 of its 6 representatives have experienced difficulties at the contest due to last-minute hassles.

Miss Vietnam 2004, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, was 10 days late for her pageant; Miss Vietnam 2005, Vu Huong Giang, experienced problems in visa procedures, and was also late. Miss Vietnam 2006, Mai Phuong Thuy, lost her luggage on the way to the contest and missed a few minor contests. Miss Vietnam 2007, Dang Minh Thu, missed the talent contest entirely due to lack of time for preparation.
Now it’s looking like one of the two potential Vietnamese candidates for the 2008 contest, Hoang Yen or Thien Ly, might also arrive at Miss World 2008 late…as usual.
Earlier, Tran Thi Thuy Dung, crowned Miss Vietnam 2008, was told she would not be allowed to participate in the pageant because she has not graduated from high school.
Vietnam ranked 46th in the Grand Slam Rankings after Miss Universe 2008 and will be the host of Miss World 2010, which is expected to be held in the coastal city of Nha Trang.
