VietNamNet Bridge - When Autumn Sunlight Comes (Khi nang thu ve) directed by Bui Trung Hai has won the Golden Remi Award for Best First Film at the Houston International Film Festival in the US.

The film tells the story of a young Vietnamese man who tries to juggle the many elements of trying to succeed in modern day Viet Nam with the hope of finding true love.

The festival chose 52 feature films and 75 short films for the final round from 4,300 entries it received.

Kathleen Haney, its artistic and program director, said: “WorldFest continues its focus on a quality selection of individual films to maintain a smaller yet effective program rather than an overly large and unwieldy slate of 150-300 films shown in too many venues. Our mantra is ‘A good story, well told’ as our classic approach to film selection.”

The Grand Remi Award went to Indian film Before the Rains directed by Santosh Sivan. The film, a multicultural story set in colonial India, is about a man torn between loyalty to the past and his ambitions.
