Ethnic writers, artists leave deep imprints on national culture

The valuable and unique characteristics of cultures of the 54 ethnic groups have greatly enriched the Vietnamese culture and fortified the national unity bloc’s inner strength, said a senior Party official.

Party Central Committee (PCC) Secretary and Head of the PCC Commission for Education and Propaganda To Huy Rua made the remarks at the fourth national congress of the Ethnic Minority Artists and Writers Association, which took place in Hanoi on December 9 and 10.

Rua asked the association to outline a training programme for ethnic minority writers, artists, researchers, and critics to enable them produce artistic and literary works that not only highlight their own culture but also contribute to the national cultural identity.

Close to 450 ethnic minority writers and artists throughout Vietnam have converged at the event to discuss ways to conserve literature and arts of their groups while still keeping up with the country’s literary and artistic mainstream.

They re-elected Tay ethnic musician Nong Quoc Binh as the President of the Ethnic Minority Artists and Writers Association for the 2008-2012 term and selected an 18-member executive board.
