A total of 1,200 people in Hanoi and 1,000 in HCM City took part in tests of physical and mental strength and team-work ability, with the hope of entering the list of the last 20 trainees for a special training course on mountain climbing.
The winners will be people who have both physical strength and resistance and a strong mind as well.
After five training phases by experts and Sherpa people (professional pathfinders in the Himalayas), just four people will go to Nepal to conquer Everest.
The reality show will be broadcast for 60-70 days from April to June 2008 with some stages broadcast live.
If participants don’t have to get down the mountain by airplane, they will receive a bonus of VND100 million or US$6,200 each.
If the climb goes smoothly, these will be the first four Vietnamese to reach the peak of Everest.
Since the first Everest climb in 1953 by E. Hillary, over 2,000 people in the world have reached the peak of the Everest and nearly 200 have lost their lives there.
