Chanh Tin Film, which is headed by well-known Artist of Merit Chanh Tin, will work on a plan to release a series of 45-minute movies to be screened nationwide as well as further develop this type of film, which is yet to be familiar to the Vietnamese public.

At present, Chanh Tin Film has 100 scripts for 45-minute films, two of which are the highly-anticipated Mysterious House and Ghost Stream. These short films will premier in mid October. A vibrant Hanoi in pictures

An exhibition showcasing 22 paintings of Hanoi by young artist Le Quy Tong from Hanoi Fine Arts University has opened at Hanoi Studio, 13 Trang Tien, Hanoi.

In his paintings, Le Quy Tong uses elements of movement and stillness to capture the complex charm of Hanoi where traditional and modern features seem inseparable.

One of the works, for instance, shows a rusty bridge over a hundred years old under which are vegetable and fruit markets day and night crowded with buyers and sellers. The exhibition will last until September 29.

VTV targets farmers with new programme

Vietnam Television’s recently-established channel for youth, VTV6, will premier its talk show/documentary programme on farmers titled Born in the Village at the end of this September.

The purpose of the show is to provide farmers and especially young people living in the countryside with a forum to express their opinions and hopes, as well as give urban residents a more informed view of rural life.

This is another attempt by VTV6 to create programmes that are both entertaining and educational.

Fashion show aims for helmet-chic safety trends

A Music Extravaganza and Helmet Fashion Show will take place at 8pm tomorrow outside at Thang Tam Square in front of the Ha Noi Opera House. The event will loudly declare its support for the Government’s current helmet-wearing campaign.

Miss Viet Nam Mai Phuong Thuy along with dozens of celebrated artists, models, children, traffic accident survivors, and international and domestic organisations will show their support of the new law by attending the event.

Aside from music performance by Luu Huong Giang, Ho Quynh Huong and the rock band Gat Tan Day, fashion-accessory helmets will be showcased by Elite Company models sashaying the evening’s catwalk.

By far, the most important part of the evening will be when Thuy and traffic accident survivors share their own experiences and comment on the importance of wearing helmets.

The event is co-organised by the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation and National Traffic Safety Committee and will be broadcast live on Viet Nam Television’s VTV1 Channel.

Essay contest promises winners a visit to the US

The search for Cultural Ambassadors, an essay contest co-launched by the National Library of Vietnam and the Asia Foundation, started receiving nationwide entries last week. Three young winners will be chosen to visit cities in the US.

Vietnamese students between the ages of 18 and 22 are eligible to enter the contest. Entrants are asked to submit a 1,000-word summary of their beliefs and hopes for the future of Vietnam.

The National Library, the Da Nang Library and HCM City’s Library will work together with the Asia Foundation in selecting a short list of nine finalists from the three regions of the country.

After an interview session, carried out by the foundation in Hanoi, the three winners will be announced. Those grand-prize winners will embark on a 10-day trip to the US to meet with young people and civic leaders. The other six candidates will be awarded a US$300 English course.

The programme’s aim is to promote a better understanding of Vietnam and Vietnamese culture in the US as well as provide Vietnamese youth glimpse into the modern-day US.
