Hanoi’s old quarter holds Mid-Autumn festival

VietNamNet Bridge – The Mid-Autumn festival in Hanoi's old quarter, an annual cultural activity of the people living here, was launched last week from the main gate of Dong Xuan Market, Hang Ma Street to Hang Dao-Dong Xuan walking area, Vietnam News Agency reports.

A series of events will take place at the heritage house at 87 Ma May Street to familiarize visitors with this traditional celebration.

Documents and images will be on display, and visitors are shown how to make traditional mid-autumn cakes and folk toys.

A market area in Hang Ma Street and in front of Dong Xuan Market's main gate is also set up for the festival, which lasts until September 25, with 18 booths displaying and selling goods such as candies and cakes, toys and souvenirs.

The main activity of the festival will be the ceremony in the old quarter, held on the last day, September 25, which is also the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar year.

Traditional games and folk art, including a procession of lanterns, lion dancing, music and dance performances will be organized, as well as a party of traditional festival cakes and fruits.
