VietNamNet - The renowned Jesse Dayton Band from the United States will tour Vietnam next week, bringing their popular brand of soulful down home American country music to the Southeast Asian nation.
The band will perform at the Youth Cultural House in Ho Chi Minh City May 11 and at Duy Tan Theatre in southern Vung Tau city May 12.
It will then move to the northern port city of Hai Phong for a May 15 concert at the city Maritime University’s hall before taking the Youth Theatre stage in Hanoi May 17.
The band, with main vocalist Jesse Dayton, drummer Eric Tucker; bass player James Elmo Sproat, and guitarist Nathan Fleming, will also conduct master classes for students of the Conservatories of Music in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.
The tour is part of the American Country and Western music event jointly host by the US Embassy in Hanoi and the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
Jesse Dayton is considered by some critics as one of the most talented singers in Texas, laying down hardcore roots music with a sharp, edgy quality that “ought to be in the mainstream and ought to be heard,” according to a website of the genre.
Jesse Dayton's brand of country music has been labeled "turbo country," thanks to his rockabilly roots. He released his solo debut Raisin' Cain in 1995.
Thanks to positive reviews, Dayton was hired for live and studio work by such country greats as George Strait, Waylon Jennings and Ray Price.
His 2004 album, Country Soul Brother, combined honky-tonk, rockabilly, soul and folk styles.
Dayton’s March 2006 release South Austin Sessions showcases the musical influence of well-known artists including Townes Van Zandt, Waylon Jennings, Jim Lauderdale and ZZ Top.
