VietNamNet – Vietnamese-Belgium Pham Quynh Anh, 19, attracts attention at home and abroad for a song named “Bonjour Vietnam”.
Quynh Anh, who lives with her family in Belgium, won ‘best voice’ at the ‘For Glory’ singing contest held by Belgium’s RTBF Television in September 2000, and signed performing contract with Universal Company in 2002.
She has gradually become famous, and prestigious composers have begun to see her as a promising singer and offer her their new songs. In 2005, she was presented with ‘Bonjour Vietnam’, written by famous French musician Marc Lavoine, and was later invited to sing with him on his album ‘Summer Hour’ and a performing tour from Liège, to Paris.
Although ‘Bonjour Vietnam’ is not officially published, it is already popular among overseas-Vietnamese. The song and sweet voice of Quynh Anh is seen as a message to the homeland from faraway Vietnamese.
Professor Vu Duc Vuong, a writer from San Francisco said, “Although it is simple, the song is very touching”. Currently, Quynh Anh and Marc Lavoine are producing a video clip.
Marc Lavoine has already published nine of his own albums in France from 1985, the most recent being ‘Summer Hour’ in September 2005. Born into a musical family near Paris, Lavoine originally tried to become a television performer, but later recognized music was his real dream. In 2004 and 2006, he was nominated for best male artist in France, and this February, he will appear in the film ‘World’s All Beauty’ by Marc Esposito. Lavoine first met Quynh Anh in Brussels and later wrote Bonjour Vietnam for her.
