- The Ministry of Post and Telematics and the Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT) held a ceremony to publish a stamp collection themed "Thang Long-Hanoi traditional struggle against aggression" in Hanoi on Monday to mark the 995th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. The collection comprises three stamp models and one bloc featuring the struggle for national independence by Hanoians over nearly one century.

 

On the occasion, VNPT also presented prizes to winners at the drawing contest for stamps to mark the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. Winners are painter Vu Kiem Lien (first prize), Nguyen Du (second prize) and Do Lenh Tuan (third prize)

 

- The Goethe Institute and the Vietnam symphony orchestra held a classical music concert at the Hanoi Opera House on Tuesday to mark the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations. Famous Vietnamese pianist Ton Nu Nguyet Minh, who is now a lecturer at the Hanns-Eisler Music Conservatory in Berlin, Germany, performed at the concert.

 

- A Ford Focus will fly as a real airplane under the remote control of German technicians in a show to be held in HCM City on October 14.

 

The car is the result of co-operation between Ford and Germany’s Gear Factor, a firm famous for specialising in producing flying equipment.

 

During the show, the first of its kind in Vietnam, spectators will also enjoy a fashion collection entitled "Impression Focus", a music show and a game show for the spectators.

 

- A high-ranking Party official has urged the North-western region to focus on developing its communications network, including the Internet, radio and television broadcasting systems, in order to help improve the cultural life for local ethnic minority groups.

 

Nguyen Khoa Diem, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Culture and Ideology made the appeal at a conference in northern mountainous Yen Bai Province on Monday. The Party official advised the region to speed up emulation movements and disseminate information about outstanding people.

 

Participants to the conference said that the north-western ethnic minority groups always believe in the Party and the State and that they are striving to improve their living standards, and maintain political stability, social order, and national defence and territorial sovereignty.
