Sharing the same honour as Trinh Cong Son are Country Joe MacDonald, Bob Dylan, Harry Belafonte, Joan Baez, and Peter, Paul & Mary of the US. This is the second year of the awards.
Trinh Cong Son’s works have been popular in Vietnam for the past three decades. He penned some of the first anti-war tunes in South Vietnam since the 1960s with anti-war ballads and songs. American musician Joan Baez compared Trinh Cong Son to US folk legend, Bob Dylan.
“He wrote over 600 songs, with the first compiled in 1959, Uot mi (Wet eyelashes), nobody can express Vietnamese’ innermost feeling like Trinh Cong Son,” Baez wrote.
As Trinh Cong Son has passed away, his younger sister Trinh Vinh Trinh will represent him at a press conference for the event in New York on February 3.
On June 14, 2003, the 1st “For Peace” music award ceremony took place in Bali, Indonesia under the eyes of 30,000 spectators. The 2nd ceremony will be held at the Hanoi Opera House on June 19, 2004.
Artists receiving the awards last year included Gloria Gaynor and Kinky (Latin America), Inxs (Australia), Love Psychedelico (Japan), Emma Shapplin (France), Zohar and Rubyhorse (Israel), Saadoun (Algeria) and Slank (Indonesia).
