"At least three children were killed as they were walking to their school when an explosive charge went off at about 8:00 a.m.(0500 GMT) on a road near the al-Fadil primary school in central Baghdad," Captain Ahmed Abdullah told Xinhua.

The blast was probably targeting a police patrol which used to patrol the area, he said.
