Vietnam secures two slots at 2016 AFC Champions League

Two Vietnamese teams, Becamex Binh Duong and Hanoi T&T, are eligible to compete in the 35th edition of Asia’s premier club football tournament - the 2016 AFC Champions League - as confirmed recently by the Asian Football Confederation’s Competition Committee.

Accordingly, the winners of the 2015 V-League, Becamex Binh Duong have qualified for the group stage of the Champions League, while V-League runners-up, Hanoi T&T will have to compete in a playoff round for a group-stage berth.

The allocation of Champions League slots are made based on three criteria: the AFC Member Associations Ranking 2014, the AFC Champions League Criteria and the Club License of the eligible clubs.

This will be the third time in a row Becamex Binh Duong represent Vietnam to participate in the most prestigious club competition in Asia.

Both Vietnamese representatives were not successful at the Champions League arena last year as Binh Duong failed to make the knockout round winning just four points after six group matches, and the T&T team could not break through the playoff round for a group-stage berth.
