Tuan’s coach Huynh Huu Chi said on August 1 at the competition, Tuan won three gold medals in the snatch (133kg) the clean and jerk (160kg), and total 293kg or 38kg more than second placed Kruaithong Sinphet of Thailand, and set two junior world records.

Tuan was selected most outstanding athlete at the tournament but was unaware of his selection because he departed the competition early to attend a training course in Hungary.

Upon learning of the situation, International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) President Tamas Ajan agreed to personally fly to Hungary and present the title to Tuan. The awards ceremony is expected to take place on August 7.

Tuan is scheduled to return to Ho Chi Minh City on August 12 to begin preparations for ASIAD 2014 in the Republic of Korea.

Currently, Tuan ranks first in the world in the 56kg weight category.

However, he will face stiff competition at ASIAD 2014 against Olympic Champion Om Yun Chol of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and 2009 world champion Long Qingquan of China.
