Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh asked the attendants to focus on clarifying the tasks that have been done as well as the difficulties, challenges and lessons learned from the past one year of preparation for APEC 2017.
After listening to Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, who is the deputy chair of the APEC 2017 National Committee’s report and comments made by representatives of the Subcommittees, Vice Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh highly appreciated the ministries and agencies that are members of the APEC 2017 National Committee for timely grasping international trends and concerns of member economies to suggest the theme "Creating a new momentum, looking after the future together" and the 4 priority directions of Vietnam on sustainable growth, innovation and embraces; Promote regional economic links; Enhance competitiveness, creation of microenterprises, small and medium (MSMEs); and improve food security and sustainable agriculture, coping with climate change, which are widely supported by members.
Preparatory work was kicked off early and proactively on the policy of efficient utilization of existing facilities, enhancing socialization. Thus the organization of startup activities – the workshop on the priorities of APEC 2017 and the informal meeting of APEC Senior Officials (ISOM) recently in Hanoi were highly praised by APEC members.
The media activities were conducted promptly, with many innovative ideas, contributing to widely promote the image of the country of Vietnam as well as Vietnamese people to friends in the region and the world. Our team has been gradually strengthened, initially experiencing APEC’s activities.
Besides, the Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out some problems to be overcome in the coming time to effectively implement APEC activities in 2017. In particular, he noted that Vietnamese businesses are still inactive in APEC events.
He cited, while many foreign companies participated in the APEC Conversation and Vietnamese Enterprises with the APEC Year 2017 held in Hanoi on December 9, the number of Vietnamese businesses was quite small and they did not actively contributed to the conference.
The Deputy Prime Minister also said that organizing the APEC Year in Vietnam is an opportunity for local enterprises to look for investment opportunities and learn from businesses of 20 APEC economies. Thus, our businesses must be more positive and proactive.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that, in the context of the world and the region with many new developments forecasted in 2017, ministries, agencies and provinces and members of the APEC Year National Committee have to coordinate closely, actively in researching, assessing the situation and increasing the exchange of information to ensure successful 2017 APEC year on all aspects, from the content to organization, logistics, media ...
The Government established the National Committee for APEC Year Vietnam 2017, including 5 subcommittees specialized on the contents; material and logistics; security and health; media and culture; and reception.
These 5 subcommittees along with the National Committee and the National Secretariat of APEC Year 2017 have already prepared all the activities. This will be a key factor in the organization of the activities of the Year of APEC 2017.
Reportedly, there will be nearly 200 activities to take place throughout 2017, including the Summit Week in November in the central city of Da Nang. APEC Year 2017 is a focus of our country's foreign policy in the integration phase. In March 2017, the first APEC senior officials’ meeting (SOM 1) and related meetings will be held in the city of Nha Trang.
