VietNamNet Bridge – The Sala Po Thi Seray Sako or New Temple in Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province, has built the grave for a 10-ton whale that was found dead on the coast on October 11.

Over the past week thousands of people flocked to the Sala Po Thi Seray Sako temple in Vinh Chau town to see a 10-ton whale, which was found dead on the coast on the morning of October 11.

Being permitted by the local authorities, the Sala Po Thi Seray Sako temple, three kilometers from the coast, hired a truck to carry the dead fish to the temple to hold rituals for the animal. So far the authorities have not pinpointed what species the whale is.

Local fishermen consider whales as sacred animals and they call them “Mr.” Fishermen always pray "Mr. Whale” for good luck at sea.

This is the first time a dead whale drifted to the coast of Soc Trang. Local fishermen see it as good omen. They contributed money to build a grave for the animal.

The tomb for the whale is 12.5 m long, 2.4 m wide and 1.5 m high, with an altar. The tomb will be decorated with trees, flowers to be a whale temple for local fishermen to worship.
