Woman gets 20-years younger
VietNamNet Bridge – After over two months of treatment by doctors of the Central Dermatology Hospital in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy has returned to her true age – 40 – after four years living with the face and in the body of a 60-year-old woman.

Thuy, from Hoai Duc district of Hanoi, was very happy with her face-lift. She said that her face began to deform in 2008. Muscles on her face drooped down. Her skin got shriveled. Wrinkles appeared tensely on her forehead and around her eyes, turning Thuy into an old woman. Skins on her body also got old quickly.

The woman was examined by doctors of Hanoi-based Bach Mai hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in Vietnam. Doctors detected that Thuy contracted kidney inflammation and gave her medicines. They also made a lot of tests and concluded that the aging symptom was a skin disease only.

Thuy went to the Central Dermatology Hospital, where doctors said that she suffered from a rare disease and wrote prescriptions for her. During four years of taking medicines, Thuy’s aging situation was not improved.

“Whenever I looked at myself in a mirror, I cried. When I stood, lied or sat down, the excessive skin on my stomach swayed. I felt like wearing a water bag,” Thuy said.

The woman did not leave her home for a long time for feeling ashamed.

In early 2012, Thuy was examined by Dr. Tran Hau Khang, the Central Dermatology Hospital’s Director. The doctor decided to perform a free surgery to save Thuy from a rare disease named cutis laxa.

Cutis laxa is a disorder of connective tissue, which is the tissue that forms the body's supportive framework. The term "cutis laxa" is Latin for loose or lax skin, and this condition is characterized by skin that is sagging and not stretchy (inelastic). The skin often hangs in loose folds, causing the face and other parts of the body to have a droopy appearance. Extremely wrinkled skin may be particularly noticeable on the neck and in the armpits and groin. Cutis laxa can also affect connective tissue in other parts of the body, including the heart, blood vessels, joints, intestines, and lungs. The disorder can cause heart problems and abnormal narrowing, bulging, or tearing of critical arteries.

In Thuy case, doctors said that her face looked like a 60-year-old woman while her stomach was like a 70-80 year-old woman.

The surgery was conducted on February 28 and March 1. This is the first operation for a cutis laxa patient in Vietnam.

Thanks to the operation and stem-cell products, Thuy has got younger by 20 years old.

The woman is leaving the hospital in the next couples of days.
