Overview of the station

Costing over 117 billion VND, the works include a 24.5m radar tower, an operating house, secondary radar equipment and auxiliary facilities on a site of 1,680 sq.m. The station will be equipped with new-generation secondary radar equipment Mode S with advanced features in order to improve surveillance quality.

Radar Mode S has been chosen by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in the process of realising the surveillance strategy for Asia-Pacific since 2013.

The station will cover skies at the height of 500 – 10,000m within a radius of 250 nautical miles, ensuring timely update about flight operations and important data about sky management for air defence.

It is assigned to work round the clock in the south of the Ho Chi Minh Flight Information Region (FIR) which is contiguous to FIRs of Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, and especially monitor flights in the south of the East Sea.

A VATM representative said the construction of the station is to realise a project on improving capacity, safety and quality of flight services approved by the Transport Minister to meet ICAO standards.-VNA
