Youth in Da Nang join hands to clean Son Tra peninsula

Over 200 young volunteers in the central Da Nang city have gathered to clean up Son Tra  peninsula, one of the tourist attractions in the city. The activity is in respond to the action month for environment.




The event, initiated by the city’s Department of Tourism aims to improve people’s awareness of environmental protection.

Tran Huu Vy, Director of GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre: "We would like to raise community’s awareness of the importance of protecting the environment, especially in Son Tra. Waste in the peninsula will be discharged directly to the sea, polluting the marine ecology."

The volunteers divided into many groups to clen up the penninsula, especially most crowed places, such as Linh Ung pagoda and Xanh lake.

Pham Minh Man, student from Da Nang’s University of Technology: "The activity helps us learn from each other and  join hands to keep the environment clean."

The waste collecting activity in Son Tra peninsula is held regularly since 2013, attracting a large number of people, especially young volunteers.

Tsurua Minoru, Japanese tourist: "Son Tra peninsula is picturesque. It’s a pity that many people discharge waste uncontrolly. I am happy to see the young people collecting the garbage to keep the place clean."

Despite hot weather, the volunteers are still eager for cleaning Son Tra peninsula, helping to protect the city’s green lung.Through the activity, they also want to call upon the community to leave their footprints, not garbage after visiting Son Tra.-VNA
