Serious traffic jams on Nguyen Trai Street

Several main streets like Tay Son, Ton Duc Thang, Thai Ha, Chua Boc and Xuan Thuy are facing serious traffic jams as Tet is approaching.

Xuan Thuy and Cau Giay are among the streets in Hanoi with the most serious traffic congestion as construction of Nhon-Hanoi metro project is still underway.

To improve the situation, from today, February 5, trucks will be banned from many streets in Hanoi’s city-centre area.

According to Ngo Manh Tuan, deputy director of Hanoi Department of Transport, municipal authorities have agreed to halt construction work on pavements of many streets to ease traffic jam.

On February 5-8, trucks and containers will be banned from travelling on belt road 3 at peak times on 6-9 am and on 4:30-7:30 pm. The department will also narrow the median trip on the road to reduce traffic congestion.

Hanoi has also banned cars with less than nine seats and operating as paid passenger transport vehicles, including Uber and Grab, from many inner-city areas.
