Danang City residents have expressed opposition to a proposed resort that would be constructed on the Son Tra Peninsula.

Many local people expressed their concern about a proposed resort as the peninsula is regarded as the ‘green lung’ of Danang and is home to rare red-shanked douc langurs.
The project is located at a site adjacent to the sea, belonging to Tho Quang Ward. The road to the project has already been blocked to the public. Security guards there said that many excavators have been operating to level and dig the ground over the past three months. Many trees have been cut down for the project.
The project, invested by Tien Sa Sea Joint Stock Company, is located behind a military area.
Huynh Van Hung, Son Tra District’s chief office manager, said that local authorities are inspecting the project implementation.
Earlier, the government approved a plan to develop Son Tra District into a national tourism site by 2025. The district is expected to welcome 3.5 million tourists by 2025 and 4.6 million in 2030.
However, many people worry about how projects are being conducted and its impact on the environment.
