Vietnam-Russia sign framework agreement on Ninh Thuan nuclear plant 1

VietNamNet Bridge - Russian State-owned Rosatom Corporation signed a framework agreement with the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) on the first phase of construction of the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant, according to Russia Today.

The agreement signed on July 30 will allow the construction of two groups of generators of Ninh Thuan 1 plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW (1.2 GW), Russia Today quoted Rosatom’s announcement on August 3.

Rosatom and EVN said that that this will be the largest power project in Vietnam, which meets the requirements of safety and quality in accordance with international standards.

According to the news agency Sputnik, the Russian side will lend Vietnam 8 billion rubles for this project.

In addition, Rosatom said the project will attract local companies with the localization rate of 30-40% in the field of manufacturing equipment and construction.

Under the plan, Vietnam will build and put into operation 13 nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 15 GW by 2030, accounting for about 10% of total electricity output in the country, Russia Today reported.

Russia and Vietnam signed an agreement to build nuclear power plants in 2010 and some adjustments were announced on July 16.
