Vietnam, active member of Greater Mekong Sub-region programme

A senior official of the Asian Development Bank has said Vietnam has been an active member of the Greater Mekong Sub-region programme.



In an interview granted to Vietnam News Agency’s reporter, ADB’s Director of Regional Cooperation and Operations Coordination Division, Southeast Asia Department, Alfredo Perdiguero,further said that the Vietnam has been leading many initiatives and participated actively in every sector that the programme is implemented.

He also spoke highly of the Vietnamese government’s efforts to host the 6th Greater Mekong Summit, which will take place in Hanoi from March 29-31, including the first-ever GMS Business Forum.

The official also revealed that the Greater Mekong Sub-region is expected to receive 66 billion USD in investment to strengthen regional economic cooperation in the next five years.

The GMS cooperation was launched in 1992 as an initiative of the ADB. The GMS Cooperation Programme is the most complete cooperation programme that involves Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and China’s Yunnan and Guangxi provinces. The programmeprioritises infrastructure development, energy, telecommunication, tourism, trade-investment, human resources, and environment.-VNA
