Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army

The consensus was reached during talks between Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, and Chief of Malaysian Defence Force Gen. Raja Mohamed Affandi in Kuala Lumpur, on March 6.

They pledged to continue intensifying collaboration in all fields and coordination at multilateral forums.

They also agreed on the early organisation of a meeting of the joint working group on bilateral defence cooperation.

During the talks, the two sides said both Vietnam and Malaysia attach importance to relations with ASEAN nations.

They suggested the two countries step up bilateral ties to help strengthen intra-block connectivity and maintain the central role of ASEAN.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Giang took the occasion to invite Gen. Affandi to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time. The latter accepted the invitation.

Giang led a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam People’s Army to visit Malaysia from March 4-6.

This visit aimed to enhance defence-military cooperation on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.-VNA
