A wastewater treatment facility at Hiep Phuoc IP in HCMC. The HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment on January 26 commissioned an automatic wastewater monitoring system for wastewater treatment at 16 IPs and EPZs in the city.

The department said the system would help better control wastewater discharged from IPs, EPZs and high-tech parks, including Saigon High-Tech Park.

The system records discharged industrial wastewater via cameras and transfers data to the analysis and operation centers. The data will serve as evidence to fine violators.

The city’s program to reduce environmental pollution in 2016-2020 requires all operational IPs and EPZs to have central wastewater treatment facilities meeting Vietnam’s environmental standards. The objective is to reduce pollution including water pollution in urban areas this year.

Last year, HCMC set aside around VND2.83 trillion for environmental protection activities, accounting for nearly 9% of total budget spending.

Competent agencies found 1,020 organizations and individuals violating regulations on environmental protection last year.
