Flower festival to add colour at Tet

VietNamNet Bridge – The Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival this year hopes to bring a richer assortment of blossoms to attract more residents and visitors during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

The five-day event, co-hosted by the HCM City-based Phu My Hung Corporation and the Association of Orchids and Ornamental Trees, will open at 7:30pm on January 16 at the Phu My Hung urban area.

First held in 2004, the annual event will include a number of art activities and festivals featuring the country's culture and traditions.

Visitors can participate in many activities, including a ceremony to release flowers, garlands and lanterns to float on the Ban Nguyet (Crescent) Lake, creating a festive atmosphere.

The festival's highlight will be a contest for the most beautiful Vietnamese flower and ornamental tree. Total prizes amount to VND250 million (US$12,000).

The festival hopes to attract 500 booth, displaying all kinds of flowers and plants from gardens of farmers and city residents, and 200 booth, selling specialties of Tet from reputable Vietnamese businesses.

A cuisine area that serves authentic Vietnamese food will also be set up. In addition, musical performances every night will keep the event lively and exciting.

In previous years, the festival attracted around 500,000 visitors to the event. This year, it hopes to welcome more than 1 million visitors.

The festival, which is open free of charge to visitors, aims to exhibit the unique beauty of Vietnamese flora and create an opportunity for the public to enjoy a traditional Tet holiday.
