VietNamNet Bridge – Defender Huynh Quang Thanh has set a record in Vietnamese football after signing a VND10 billion (US$476,000) contract with Sai Gon FC.
Thanh, who has been a key player in the national squad and his former team of Becamex Binh Duong, signed a three-year contract that will see him earning a salary of VND60 million per month.
The contract made captain Thanh the most valuable player in Viet Nam, breaking the former record by striker Quang Hai, who snagged a VND9 billion three-year contract last season.
* Ha Noi club signs contract with Johnny Nguyen
Ha Noi Football Club signed a contract with French player Johnny Nguyen in preparation for the coming season.
Details of his contract with Ha Noi were not revealed.
Nguyen, whose parents are Vietnamese, was born in 1986 and has trained at the Racing Club de Lens since he was six.
He signed a three-year contract with the team at the age of 17 but failed to find a position in the main team. His second club was CS Sedan in the Ligue II before a move to Stade de Reims.
* Gymnasts power up for Tokyo tournament
Vietnamese gymnasts will travel to Japan for the Toyota Cup which will begin on Saturday in Tokyo.
The tournament provides a chance for the nation's leading gymnasts to sharpen their competitive skills ahead of the Olympics.
The team also includes gymnasts who earned gold medals from the recent SEA Games in Indonesia, except for Do Thi Ngan Thuong who suffered an ankle injury at the games.
The Cup will wrap up on December 12 and the Vietnamese athletes will have one month of training ahead of the Pre-Olympic tournament in England on January 10-18.
