VietNamNet Bridge – Police of the southern province of Dong Thap have arrested a man for spreading false rumors of someone who kidnapped children to take their internal organs for sale.
Earlier, people in the southern province of Kien Giang and An Giang had been worried of the rumor of the appearance of a gang that kidnaps children to take their internal organs for sale.
The similar rumor was then spread to Dong Thap province. Some people did not work to stay at home to look after their kids.
The rumormonger has been defined as Nguyen Tan Tai, a steersman at a wharf in Cho Vam town of Phu Tan district, An Giang province.
While operating his ferry, Tai spread the false rumor. He told passengers that he witnessed a kidnapping in Tan Chau town of An Giang province. One of the passengers was chief police officer of Thuan A commune in Dong Thap province. The steersman was questioned by police about the rumor and he could not prove that it was true.
Tai confessed that he spread the false rumor, based on the story of his uncle, Mr. Vo Ngoc Minh, the owner of the wharf where Tai worked.
Local police are investigating to find other rumormongers in order to stabilize order.
