Truong Tan Sang elected as State President
VietNamNet Bridge – Mr. Truong Tan Sang was elected as the State President of the 2011-2016 tenure, with 91.4 percent of the votes, at the National Assembly meeting this afternoon, July 25.

Mr. Sang, 62, Permanent Secretariat of the Politburo Standing Secretariat of the Vietnam Communist Party’s Central Committee, was recommended by the NA Standing Committee.

Mr. Sang, from Mekong Delta’s Long An Province, is a bachelor of law. He was elected to the 7th Party Central Committee, at the age of 42. He has been a member of the Politburo of four consecutive tenures and a member of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th NA.

Before working as the Permanent Secretariat, he used to be the head of the Central Economic Committee and the general secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Party.

After delivering his inauguration speech, the newly-elected President nominated Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung as the Prime Minister of the new term.

Mr. Dung is a member of the Party Central Committee of the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th tenures and a member of the Politburo of the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th terms.

Before being elected as the Prime Minister in 2006, Mr. Dung was the Deputy Prime Minister of the 10th and 11th terms. He is also the chief of the Central Steering Board for Combating Corruption.

President Truong Tan Sang also nominated Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Tribunal President of the Supreme People's Court Truong Hoa Binh to assume the positions for another term. Nguyen Hoa Binh, Party Secretary of the central province of Quang Ngai was nominated as the Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy.

The election of the Prime Minister, the Vice President, the Tribunal President of the Supreme People's Court and the Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy will be held on July 26.
