Song Thu Company, a subsidiary under the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense, launched the CBS 9003 vessel and handed it over to the marine police forces for management.

Designed by Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands and built by Song Thu, the boat is 52 meters in length, 12 meters in width and 5.5 meters in height.

Colonel Ha Son Hai, director of Song Thu, said it can operate on the seas under any weather conditions for up to 30 consecutive days.

Colonel Nguyen Quang Dam, chief of staff of the Vietnam Marine Police Department, said the vessel would be used for patrolling, search and rescue purposes and for protecting Vietnamese waters and continental shelf on the East Sea.

The Song Thu company is expected to build and hand over another tugboat coded CBS 9004 to the Vietnamese marine police in 2012.
