| Introducing studying curriculum | Every year, the Government of Singapore spends big sums of money on selecting excellent students from other countries, especially from South East Asia. Vietnam has been considered one of the countries which provides many talented students.
Offering A-Star scholarships, Singaporean high schools’ officials go to Vietnam regularly to select good 9-class students at secondary schools in big cities in Vietnam. Singaporean educators learn about the ability of Vietnamese students through IQ, English and Mathematics tests. They also learn about the willingness and strong points of Vietnamese students, so that they can put them in the right schools in Singapore. As a result, many excellent Vietnamese students do not study at domestic schools, they leave Vietnam to study overseas.
In October and November, Singaporean universities including NUS (National University of Singapore), NTU and SMU send their staffs to high schools in Hanoi and HCM City and other big cities to introduce their studying curriculum and invite Vietnamese students to study at their universities. After that, a lot of Vietnamese students left Vietnam to study in Singapore.
Besides, these universities also introduce their studying programmes to Vietnam’s universities, calling on 1-year students to follow the university and post-university training courses in Singapore.
Experts said that every year, Vietnam loses a lot of good students to regional countries. Vietnam can reckon how many students go studying abroad every year, but it does not know how many students return home after studying, how many stay and work in Singapore.
All Vietnamese families take pride when their families’ members go studying abroad. All schools and universities take pride if their students go studying abroad. And Vietnam can be proud because it has many students who are studying at reputable universities worldwide, where Vietnamese students are always recognized for their high ability.
However, experts said that Vietnam should think of a suitable human resource development strategy, which allows it to produce talent and use the talent most effectively. Vietnam should do necessary things, so that talented people should go to the right places to study and the right places to work. It should attract good students to return to work in Vietnam after they study and work abroad, bringing the knowledge they get in overseas countries to serve the motherland.
In fact, local authorities have been trying to attract more talents by offering attractive working conditions to good graduates. However, local agencies have not been trying to use the talents most effectively after the recruitment.
