VietNamNet Bridge - Provincial authorities have given the go-ahead to four hydro-power plants to be built in Quang Ngai province by the end of 2011.

Four private enterprises based in Quang Ngai will be in charge of building the plants, with a total combined capacity of 35 MW.

The power plants are: the 19.5 MW Dak Ba Power Plant by the Dak Ba River in Son Tay District’s Son Bua Commune; the 10.5MW Son Tay Plant and the 3.5MW Nuoc Lac Plant on Dak Dring River in Son Tay District’s Son Mua Commune; and the 1.5MW Suoi Kem Plant by the Suoi Kem Spring in Tay Tra District’s Tra Xinh Commune.

According to the Quang Ngai People’s Committee, total investment of the four projects will amount to VND685 billion (US$41 million).

These hydro-power projects will be implemented in B.O.O. (Build-Own-Operate) fashion.

Generating power

In Thua Thien-Hue Province, the first two of the 11 hydropower plants it plans to build this decade will start generating electricity this year.

Three more plants are now under construction in the central province. The combined capacity of the 11 plants will be 360 MW.

Built at a cost of VND1.1 trillion(US$68 million), the 48MW Binh Dien plant is designed to have two turbine units, the first of which will link up with the national grid next September.

The 54 MW Huong Dien hydropower plant built on the Bo River in Huong Tra District will go on stream in the last quarter of this year.

The biggest of the 11 plants, the 170MW A Luoi is being built on the A Sap River which runs through A Luoi District, 70 km west of Hue.

To cost VND3.23 trillion ($202 million), it is scheduled to generate power from 2010.

The other eight plants will be built in Ta Trach, Hong Ha, A Linh, and Hong Thuy villages, known for many short and swift-moving rivers originating in the Truong Son mountain range.
