Tan Tao Group to build largest thermo-power plant in Vietnam

VietNamNet Bridge – Tan Tao Group has announced the building of the 4,400MW Kien Luong Thermal Power Centre in the southern province of Kien Giang, with estimated capital investment of US$6.7 billion.

 

This is the largest thermo power project in Vietnam and the first one built by a private corporation.

 

This project will include three power plants totaling 4,400 MW and supporting works located on a total area of 600ha. The construction will start in 2009 and the first phase is slated to finish in 2014 and the whole project will finish in 2018. These plants will consume around 10-11 million tons of coal per year.

 

According to Tan Tao group, it will invest around 20% of the total capital and the remaining is contributed by foreign partners and mobilized through bond issuance.

 

In addition, Tan Tao will build a deep water entry port in Nam Du archipelago, also called Nam Du - Kien Luong Port, with estimated capital investment of about US$1 billion.

 

Tan Tao Group has signed contracts with some foreign partners, including BLACK & VEATCH and FHDI Engineering Co., LTD (USA), and the Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 to conduct the above projects.
