This is the first German invested garment workshop in Vietnam

The workshop will be put under the management of the 100% German invested van Laack Asia Company, which has the total investment capital of $3mil.

The workshop covers an area of 10,000 sq m in Hanoi’s Ngoc Hoi Industrial Zone. Once operational, it will employ some 600 workers and provide 600,000 units of product every year. All the workshop’s products will be exported and distributed in the distribution network owned by the parent group.

Christian von Daniels, Chairman of van Laack group said that in 1992, the group began looking for a place outside Germany to implement its plant to expand production. At this time, there were very few German experts who had good knowledge about making investments in Vietnam. However, the group has still decided to make investments in Vietnam, not North Africa, China, East European countries or other Southeast Asian countries.

Mr Daniels said that the workshop will be the most modern garment workshop in the region.

He said that after Vietnam joins the WTO, trade barriers will be removed, which will turn Vietnam into an ideal place for making investments in South East Asia and the Pacific rim. He said that he could see big advantages in Vietnam in terms of materials, labour cost, and distribution, which have prompted the group to set up a workshop here, in Vietnam.

Van Laack is a German leading group, well known for its high-grade products of different kinds, from shirts, clothes, fibre-made products and indoors clothes. The group has been operating for 125 years, has set up workshops worldwide and has products sold in 40 countries. The group has decided to shut down its workshop in Hong Kong and focus its investment in Vietnam, striving to make Vietnam a big production base of the group.
