VietNamNet Bridge - The Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN) will pour VND3.1 trillion (about $194.7 million) into building 37 small-sized hydro-electric power stations in northern provinces bordering China.

Of these, 10-13 stations, with a maximum capacity of 5MW each, will be built from now till 2010 in bordering districts in Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang and Lang Son provinces.

Under a master plan for industry, small industry and handicraft development in the northern border area by 2010, Vietnam aims to provide electricity to 100 percent of rural households, of which 70 percent will be connected to the national grid and the remaining 30 percent will get access to small-scale hydro-electricity sources and other sources.

To this aim, small-scale hydro-electric power projects will be built in remote areas.
