VietNamNet – On September 13, Japan’s Sanyo Group will launch a US$13mil digital camera factory in the Bien Hoa I Industrial Zone in southern Dong Nai Province.

Sanyo General Director Shigeru Wada said that Sanyo has invested in digital cameral plants in some Asian countries like China, Indonesia and Japan, but at present Vietnam is the strategic investment site.

The factory in Vietnam will be the group’s top producer of digital cameras, turning out about 100,000 units per month, all for export.

“We conducted a survey before investing in Vietnam. The country has a stable political situation, there are many young people in the labour market and the Vietnamese government has many policies to attract foreign investment. We are drawn by those factors,” Wada said.

But the Sanyo director also added that if Vietnam wants to further attract foreign investment, the country should give more service support to investors, for example in power supply service. “As a producer, I greatly fear power outages,” he said.
