The Techmart Gia Lai 2004 is opening up opportunities for the Central Highlands to develop its economy.
Techmart won 16 contracts worth VND5.8bil (US$348,000) for the transfer of technological knowledge.
At Techmart, HCM City's University of Technology signed a contract to provide farm machines worth VND250mil to the Agricultural Promotion Centre in Dac Doa District, Gia Lai Province.
With the participation of 52 scientific and technical companies, the exposition was held in Pleiku City last week. Forty units came from HCM City. The rest were from Gia Lai Province.
Techmart showcased about 400 different kinds of technical equipment, agricultural software products, technologies in crop hybridisation, as well as farming methods, post-harvest technology, agro-forestry and marine products processing, environmental protection and pollution treatment.
Techmart 2004 also provided businesses and farmers with consultations and technical knowledge to increase agricultural productivity and quality, plans to promote technological transfer and make advances into new overseas markets.
The consultancy services are the first that are offered to customers for free.
Ta Ba Hung, of the National Scientific and Technical Information Centre, said to successfully transfer technology to the Central Highlands, scientists should strengthen co-operation with local businesses and farmers to meet their demand for technical advances in farm production.
