Vietnam powers up across Lao border

VietNamNet – Power Company 3, under Electricity of Vietnam, and the Lao Electricity Corporation has signed an agreement on power purchases across the La Lay border-gate, Dak Rong District, Quang Tri Province.

 
 
Vietnam will sell electricity to Salavan Province, Laos
Under the agreement, Vietnam will sell electricity to Se Pon and Muong Phin districts, Salavan Province, Laos at a price of US0.06/kWh fed through a 35KV transmission line connecting Vietnam’s Dong Ha and Laos La Lay, through cables laid from Vietnam’s Lao Bao border-gate to La Lay. The initial 1,000kW capacity will be increased in following years.

Support infrastructure (transmission lines and transformer stations) to link Vietnam and Laos’ power grids have been installed built by Vietnamese work crews at a cost of over VND4.5bil. According to plan, transmission will begin on August 19 to celebrate the August Revolution and the National Day (September 2).

Power Company 3 has sold electricity to Laos via the Lao Bao and La Lay border-gates, with provision volume increasing by 40% annually.
