VietNamNet Bridge – Broadway showtunes will be prominent in the first-ever liveshow of pop singer Duc Tuan on Sunday night in HCM City.

Light entertainment: Singer Duc Tuan will perform songs from Broadway theatrical performances in his first-ever show on Sunday. | In the show at the Municipal Theatre, Tuan will perform 11 songs from his latest album The Broadway Album: Music of the Night, with the repertoire heavily favouring the songs of composer Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Canadian singer Geneviere Charest will be a special guest during the performance and will duet with Tuan on the songs The Phantom of the Opera, and All I Ask of You. Charest has played the role of Fantine in The Phantom of the Opera, and scored a hit in Canada with her performance of the song I Dreamed a Dream.
Vietnamese singer Ngoc Tuyen will also join Tuan on stage to perform Love Changes Everything from the play Aspects of Love.
All three singers will then share the stage to sing Time to Say Goodbye from Phantom of the Opera, and Our Love, a Vietnamese song with English lyrics by composer Paul Bateman.
Bateman is serving as musical director of Tuan's show and will conduct a 60-member orchestra and a 20-member chorus from the HCM City Symphony and Opera Theatre.
The orchestra will also perform overtures from The Sound of Music and Oklahoma, and will play a portion of Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for the film The Mission, as well as the Intermezzo from Mascagni's opera Cavalleria Rustica.
Tuan, who took in several Broadway shows when he visited New York in 2003, said the experience suggest to him a new direction for his musical career. His live show, also entitled Music of the Night, will begin at 8pm on Sunday at the Municipal Theatre No 7 Cong Truong Lam Son, in HCM City's Distrist 1.
