VietNamNet Bridge – A huge block of sapphire of 15 tonnes in weight from a mine in the central province of Nghe An is on display at the Ruby Plaza trade centre in Hanoi.

Named Dai Lam Ngoc, the sapphire block is 2.4m in height, 1.7m in width and is the biggest of its kind to be found in Vietnam so far.

Dai Lam Ngoc is one of the four records that will be introduced on the 2nd birthday of Ruby Plaza, the biggest centre for gemstones in Hanoi.

The sapphire block is laid out on the centre’s campus for people to admire. According to a goldsmith from Doji group, the operator of Ruby Plaza, this block is very hard and it cannot be harmed by even large hammers.

Many viewers expressed their surprise seeing such a big gemstone.

“I learned about this huge sapphire from the media so I came here to see it with my own eyes. If it was polished, it would be much more beautiful,” said Thu Hang from Cau Giay district, Hanoi.

Ruby Plaza has also recently introduced another Vietnamese record, a wedding gown worth 2 billion dong, with 110 rubies and 222 diamonds.
